Their provisions and cargo.
which was about 26 tons, and was manned with 13 men and a boy; William Browne was appointed as skipper on the bark, and alongside him Samuel Kirkland, both good and experienced seamen. Both these ships were richly provided with provisions for the duration of 8 months, and further filled with modest goods which they thought would be easiest to sell in the West Indies. This consisted of hats of various colors, such as green, blue, and yellow; of ready-made clothing of kersey a coarse woolen cloth and canvas; of stockings and shoes; and furthermore of saws, pickaxes, shovels, spades, hatchets, axes, hooks, knives, shears, hammers, nails, planes, fish-hooks, bells, beads, mirrors, thimbles, pins, needles, thread, and such like.

Arrive at Milford Haven.
The Azores.
Islands on the northern coast of Virginia.

Good fishing, but a lack of salt.
On April 10, we sailed from Milford Haven, where we had been forced to remain for 14 days due to the wind, and received the news of Queen Elizabeth's death. En route, we sailed past the islands of the Azores, where we first caught sight of the Peak original: "Pike", and subsequently the islands of Corvo original: "Cuerno" and Flores; and having sailed about 500 miles further, we discovered a multitude of small islands lying on the northern coast of Virginia at 43 degrees northern latitude. These islands appeared pleasant, were well overgrown with clean grass, as well as with various kinds of trees, such as cedars, pines, and fir trees. We found a place here where much cod, better than that of the New-found Land, could be caught, and at the same time, good and convenient ground where one could dry the same; and we saw nothing that could prevent such, except that one knew not how to make salt here, a matter, however, of great importance.
