Preparation for the voyage.

On the 17th of April, being Wednesday in Easter week, I took my leave of each and every one of my dear and worthy friends in the quarter that is called Bernard's Inn, and sailed to Southampton to order biscuit and some other provisions for our bark, with which Mr. Bartholomew was to sail as captain to Virginia. This bark had already been there the year before with Captain Bartholomew Gosnold.

Everything being prepared, we came from there to Plymouth; from Plymouth we sailed on the 10th of May, and were on the 26th of the same month at the latitude of 32 degrees; we intended to sight the island of Madeira here, but we missed it; along the way we met two or three English warships.
Sighted the land of the West Indies.
On the 1st of June, we were at the latitude of 27 degrees, from where we crossed over to the islands of the West Indies. On the 15th of the same month, toward evening, we sighted land. Captain Gilbert and Mr. Henry Suite, men who had lived within the iron gate of
