1593 Sets out to sea with the same.
With the first good wind, we sailed along the coast of Corsica and Sardinia, crossing the Gulf of Tunis. We passed by the Good Cape near the island of Lampedusa, leaving the coast of Barbary, until we arrived at Cape Rosetta, and so along the African shore we came to Alexandria in Egypt, where we unloaded our cargo. From there, we sailed to Scanderoon, more to see what ships were in the shipping lanes than for any other reason, thus holding our course to Cyprus and the coast of Asia, sailing past Rhodes, the Archipelago, Candia, the Greek coast, and the island of Cephalonia. We held our position for some days between the island of Corfu and the Cape of Otranto in the Kingdom of Naples, at the entrance of the Adriatic Sea.
Comes to Alexandria in Egypt.
Passes several islands.
Gets into a fight with a Venetian.
Between the two capes, a ship from Venice encountered us. The Captain, it seemed, was inclined to speak with them, and having asked where the ship was from, we received the answer that it cost us a man. The Breton immediately gave him a broadside, then our stern pieces, and again the other broadside, and this so many times at one another that the Venetian was so damaged in sails and rigging that they were only intent on defending themselves and returned shot for shot. Twice in an hour and a half we grappled him, but were driven off each time.
