A detailed engraving depicts an urban scene in Amsterdam. The focus is the Jan Roonpoortstoren, a tall, slender clock tower with an ornate spire, situated on the right side of the composition. In the center, a stone bridge with multiple arches spans a canal (the Singel). On the left, several traditional Dutch gabled houses line the waterfront. Small figures of people are seen walking across the bridge and along the quays. A small rowing boat with two individuals is visible in the water in the lower left foreground. Trees line the right embankment. The sky contains light, billowy clouds.
