A detailed copperplate engraving showing a harbor view in Amsterdam. The focal point is the Haringpakkerstoren (Herring Packers' Tower), a tall, slender masonry tower with an ornate octagonal wooden top featuring a clock and a spire crowned with a weather vane. To the left of the tower are several gabled merchant houses and a row of moored sailing ships with tall masts. To the right, more gabled buildings are visible behind a wooden palisade. The foreground depicts the water of the IJ with several vessels: a small rowboat with two figures in the center foreground, and a larger sailboat with a dark sail on the right. In the distance, other city structures, including a large dome, are visible against a sky with soft clouds.
