A grand double-hemisphere world map of the "Planisphaerium Terrestre" by Adam Friedrich Zürner, published by Peter Schenk.
Benevolent Spectator, in illustrating these principal Geographical-Hydrographical Maps, we have wished to represent not merely one, but the various faces of the habitable world, just as it can be seen on globes, in diverse ways. In the two larger Hemispheres, in which this Map takes pride, we exhibit: I. The entire mass of the Earth with all its parts, namely Europe, Asia, Africa, and America, just as it is accustomed to be depicted on a plane. II. In the eight smaller Hemispheres, which are disposed around the larger ones, the various faces of this same earth, inspected from various poles, namely: 1. A prospect from the North Pole. 2. A prospect from the South Pole. 3. A prospect from a point on the Equator at the Island of Celebes. 4. A prospect from the opposite point. 5. A prospect from a point in Mexico. 6. A prospect from the opposite point in the Indian Ocean. 7. A prospect from a point in Europe. 8. A prospect from the opposite point in the Pacific Ocean. III. Two Celestial Hemispheres, Northern and Southern, with their fixed stars reduced to the year 1700. IV. Diverse Hypotheses of the world, the Ptolemaic, Tychonic, and Copernican. V. The phases of the Moon and its motion around the earth. VI. Systems of the Planets according to the mind of the ancients and moderns. All these things, so that they might aid you in Geographical and Astronomical study, A. F. Zurner collected with the greatest care and diligence and reduced to this form.
The Noble and Well-Experienced Describer of this Earth-globe has not only shown the shape of the entire world in two large hemispheres in the usual manner: but he has also viewed the same in eight smaller hemispheres from various viewpoints, in order to set the location of lands and seas more clearly before the eyes. As namely: 1. The North pole. 2. The South pole. 3. A view from the Equator near the island of Celebes. 4. The opposite point. 5. A view from Mexico. 6. The opposite point in the Indian Sea. 7. A view from Europe. 8. The opposite point in the Pacific Sea. Moreover, one sees here the two Celestial hemispheres, with the fixed stars, according to the observations of the year 1700. Also the various Hypotheses of the world, of Ptolemy, Tycho Brahe, and Copernicus; the phases of the Moon, and the course of the wandering stars original: "Dwaal-sterren", meaning planets, according to the old and new star-gazers. All this has been gathered together with great industry and diligence and brought into this order by A. F. Zurner.
