A detailed hand-colored engraved map of North and South America titled "NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICA". The map displays the continents with colored borders distinguishing various colonial territories. In the top left, a decorative cartouche is supported by figures, including one holding a staff. To the bottom left, a large scenic vignette depicts indigenous people and European explorers near palm trees and a chest, situated next to a stone plinth containing a descriptive Latin text. The oceans are labeled with names such as "SOUTH SEA," "PACIFIC OCEAN," and "NORTH SEA." A portion of the European and African coasts is visible on the far right. Speculative geography, including "UNKNOWN LAND OF EZO," appears on the far left.
America is today divided into seven parts:
1. British, whose principal Provinces are: New Britain, Nova Scotia, New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Carolina, and Georgia, with the Islands.
2. French, which consists of: Canada or New France, and Louisiana.
3. Spanish, which includes: New Spain, New Mexico, Florida, and a large part of South America.
4. Portuguese, or Brazil.
5. Dutch, in Surinam and the Islands.
6. Danish, in the Islands.
7. Independent or Barbarian, which includes regions not yet possessed by any of the Europeans.
