A hand-colored engraved map of the Iberian Peninsula, depicting the kingdoms of Spain and Portugal. The map features regional coloring: pink for Galicia, Old Castile, Navarre, Valencia, and Andalusia; green for Asturias, Extremadura, Aragon, and Murcia; and yellow for Leon, New Castile, Catalonia, and Granada. Portugal is shaded in yellow, green, and pink divisions. The map includes mountain ranges, rivers, and numerous cities and towns marked with red symbols. The surrounding waters include the Atlantic Ocean ("WESTERN OCEAN" and "ATLANTIC") and the Mediterranean Sea, with a few sailing ships and a compass rose. In the bottom-right corner, a large, ornate cartouche shows the title and publication information, framed by heraldic shields, a royal crown, and allegorical figures including a seated woman holding a palm branch and cornucopia. At the bottom-left, a text box lists the provinces and capitals of Spain. A small box at the bottom-center contains a legend titled "Remarks." Scales in various leagues are provided at the very bottom.
Spain may be divided in two ways: namely into Kingdoms or into Provinces. It is ordinarily divided into fourteen Provinces, the names of which follow with their Capitals.
