A detailed hand-colored engraved map of the British Isles and the adjacent coasts of Scandinavia and the European continent. The map includes an elaborate decorative cartouche in the upper left corner featuring Neptune with a trident, a mermaid, sea monsters, and coastal birds. Numerous descriptive notes in French are positioned across the sea areas and landmasses. Political boundaries are highlighted in colors (green for Ireland, yellow for Scotland, pink and orange for England and Wales). The map also shows coastal features of Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and France.
The shelf named by the Dutch "De Kimin" is a type of shoal at the bottom of the sea which extends from the North of Jutland through the North of the Shetland Islands up to the Western part of the Hebrides Islands.

Between this parallel and one degree of longitude, some Maps place an Island from the entrance to which they give the name of Buss. And at the 58th and a half degree of latitude and 356 degrees of longitude, one sees another which they call Almirante or the Seven Islands. What foundation do these two Islands have to be placed thus on the claims of the sea? It is little in my power to believe that there are Islands so close to our Coasts that have been unknown to us until now.
