A detailed, hand-colored engraved map of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) from the 17th century. The map shows the various kingdoms and provinces of the peninsula with distinct colored boundaries. In the bottom right corner is a large, ornate allegorical cartouche: a crowned female figure representing Hispania sits atop a stone plinth, holding a scepter and leaning against a shield bearing the royal arms of Spain. Above the shield, two putti hold a crown. The title of the map is inscribed on the face of the plinth. In the bottom left corner, another decorative element features two putti using surveying instruments (a compass and a ruler) over a scale bar. The map includes a compass rose in the Mediterranean Sea and detailed depictions of topographical features like mountains and rivers. Surrounding waters are labeled "Oceanus Cantabricus", "Oceanus Occidentalis", and "Mare Mediterraneum".
