A large, hand-colored 18th-century world map by Adam Friedrich Zürner, published by Peter Schenk. The central focus consists of two large circular world hemispheres (Western and Eastern). Above and below the junction of these hemispheres are two smaller celestial maps: the "NORTHERN CELESTIAL HEMISPHERE" (Northern celestial hemisphere) at the top and the "SOUTHERN CELESTIAL HEMISPHERE" (Southern celestial hemisphere) at the bottom. Surrounding these main maps are 26 smaller inset circular diagrams. Across the top row are projections of the world's faces (Oriental, Occidental, Boreal, Austral), various climatic zones, an armillary sphere, and planetary systems. Down the left and right sides are diagrams of planetary distances, the Tychonic system, and moon phases. Across the bottom row, a series of diagrams illustrates the appearances of the Moon, Sun, and planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn). Two large rectangular text blocks, framed with decorative scrolling and allegorical landscape vignettes, are positioned at the bottom left (in Latin) and bottom right (in Dutch). The entire map is rendered with fine engraving and subtle watercolor tints for geographic boundaries and celestial features.

Benevolent Spectator: In illustrating the principal parts of the terrestrial globe and its phenomena, more accurate care has been applied so that not only might new and certain observations in Geography and Hydrography follow, but also that certain prerogatives in Astronomy might be added. Although many geographers have approached this subject, the nature of the matter teaches that most of them were either deceived by a fondness for antiquity or were less practiced in the inventions of the moderns. Therefore, as far as the pressure of time and the abundance of material allowed, we have examined everything with precision and, with as much fidelity as possible, represented it on this map. In the Eastern Hemisphere, we have corrected Europe, Asia, Africa, and the unknown Southern land according to the newest geographical maps, and especially according to the observations of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Paris. In the Western Hemisphere, North and South America, along with the adjacent islands, have been delineated no less accurately. Furthermore, we have added both hemispheres of the heavens, namely the Boreal and the Austral, with Fixed Stars reduced to the year 1700. Finally, we have exhibited the Systems of the World with various diagrams, such as the Ptolemaic, Tychonic, Copernican, and Cartesian; we have also added the diversity of the Zones, the Phases of the Moon, and other things pertaining to the matter. Farewell and enjoy.
Flat Earth-Sphere with both celestial hemispheres, or the distinct division of the land and water world: in which the most famous geographic discoveries and improvements in astronomy and world-description are, in many places, improved, and by the notes of the famous A. F. Zürner, Land-Councilor and Commissioner of the Provinces and Frontiers of His Royal Majesty of Poland and the Electoral Serenity of Saxony, as well as Fellow of the Royal Society of Prussia: increased and clarified. In this new World Map, not only the shape of the entire Earth, but also that of the two celestial hemispheres is shown with the greatest accuracy. One has followed here not only the newest discoveries of travelers and navigators, but has also consulted the astronomical observations of the Academy in Paris and other learned men everywhere. Besides the large maps of the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, one also finds here the Northern and Southern heavens, with all the fixed stars as they stood in the year 1700. Furthermore, the world systems of Ptolemy, Tycho Brahe, Copernicus, and Descartes are added here; together with images of the different climatic zones, the phases of the moon, and other necessary illustrations which can serve to clarify the study of Earth and Heaven.
