A hand-colored engraved map titled "Moscoviæ seu Russiæ Magnæ Generalis Tabula" by Nicolaum Visscher. The map depicts Northern and Eastern Europe, centered on Russia (Moscovia), including Scandinavia to the west, the Arctic Ocean to the north (Oceanus Septentrionalis), the Caspian Sea (Mare Caspium) and Black Sea (Pontus Euxinus) to the south, and Tartary to the east. Borders of various provinces and kingdoms are outlined in red, yellow, and green. An elaborate title cartouche on the right features a seated figure in royal attire, likely the Tsar, surrounded by various figures in regional costumes and allegorical figures. In the top center, two inset text boxes provide ethnographic and geographic descriptions. Sailing vessels are illustrated in the surrounding seas. A scale and additional notes are located in the bottom left corner.
