Front cover of a red morocco leather binding. The leather is blind-tooled with a rectangular border of floral arabesques and a central large lozenge (diamond) shape. Inside the lozenge are small fleur-de-lis stamps. At the top, a small rectangular brass plate is riveted to the leather, containing an engraved inscription. In the center is a brass boss or escutcheon featuring six raised circular studs (pills), characteristic of the Medici family coat of arms. Large characters are painted or gilded onto the leather: "19." above the central boss and "P 78." at the bottom.
