In the fifth chapter, the fifth place of instruction is what a minister’s demeanor ought to be toward any people when admonishing them. And first he notes the differing age in the male sex. Then he deals at length with widows, whom he distinguishes by age, into those who are more advanced and those who are still young, so that decorum may be better observed in each. Thirdly, concerning presbyters. Fourthly, concerning the imposition of hands. Fifthly, certain private matters pertaining to the person of Timothy. Sixthly, a general Epilogue follows, containing a distinction of sins and likewise of good works.
In chapter 6, he pursues the fifth place, and discusses servants, how they must be admonished of their duty. Secondly, he deals with schismatics, how they can be detected and must be admonished. Thirdly, he deals with Christian sufficiency, which we can call αὐτάρκειαν self-sufficiency.
