A woodcut depicts the coat of arms of the city of Bern: a bear walking upward along a diagonal bend on a shield, set within a highly decorative Renaissance frame of scrollwork, floral garlands, and fruit. Two partially draped human figures recline at the top corners of the frame, and an ornate grotesque mask is integrated into the bottom scrollwork.
