The primary qualities of natural bodies have no small power in diagnosing such diseased locations and their ailments, since they affect the human sense of touch. The secondary qualities, which follow immediately after the primary and tactile ones, also contribute not a little to discerning the affected parts and their ailments, since they are accustomed to move all our other senses by which we recognize the first sensible object. These secondary qualities are color, odor, taste, and sound; of these, color affects our sight, odor our smell, taste our sense of taste, and sound our hearing.
