Furthermore, an abortion signifies that the uterus is badly affected and that the acetabula cup-shaped cotyledons of the placenta are filled with mucus, just as Hippocrates teaches us in Aphorism 45 of Section 5: "Those who are moderately corpulent and abort in the second or third month without a manifest cause, possess cotyledons placental attachments full of viscous humor; they cannot contain the fetus due to its weight, but it falls away when these are ruptured." The seed, whether of a man or a woman, if it flows spontaneously, signifies that the seminal vessels of either are in a bad state. They are, in fact, weak and cannot "cook" a traditional medical term for the maturation or digestion of bodily humors the seed. Therefore, it becomes more liquid and flows spontaneously and without the desire of Venus sexual desire. Moreover, the menses of women, if they are more abundant, more sparse, or finally discolored, indicate that the uterus is badly affected, as Hippocrates testifies in Aphorism 45, Section 7: "With abundant menses, diseases arise, and with their suppression, diseases occur from the uterus." If, furthermore, food and drink exit from a wound, they signify that either the ventricle or the stomach has been pierced. If chyle also flows from the wound, some part of the small intestines has been wounded. Just as, if excrement or something smelling of the stench of excrement exits from there, one will be able to judge with certainty that some large intestine has been pierced.
