the liver is affected, not the spleen: if it is present in the left, the spleen is affected, not the liver. Also, if a tumor occurs to the touch in the right hypochondrium under the false ribs, it occupies the liver: if it is circumscribed and stretches into the length of the belly, it is in the straight muscles of the abdomen. But tumors of other abdominal muscles are detected by touch on either side of the belly toward the false ribs. For tumors of the external muscles, which pertain to the ribs, are easily known to us because they fall under the senses and cause difficulty in breathing. However, tumors that occupy the muscles between the ribs, which are called pleurisy inflammation of the pleura/rib-lining, reflect the nature of pleurisy. That tumor which is touched circumscribed under the pubic bone holds the bladder. Finally, that which occupies the outside of the cervix of the head declares it an angina throat constriction/inflammation, which of itself is not fatal, according to Hippocrates, Aphorism 25, section 6, and 37 of the same section.
