Magnificat. Antiphon: The festivity of new praise is present, pleasing to the mind and to the citizens of heaven: by which the holiness of blessed Mary was given to the temple by her parents, so that the sweetness of the rich olive may redound with abundant fruits. Collect:
O God, who willed that the Blessed Virgin Mary, the future mother of your only-begotten Son, be presented in the temple at the age of three on this day, and that the same Son of yours be presented by her to Symeon: grant to your suppliants that we, who venerate the presentation of this same mother on earth, may merit to be presented to you in heaven through her patronage. Through the same Lord, etc.
At Compline on the psalm. Antiphon: The instructed girl. Seek in the first vespers.
A large decorative initial S in red and black ink, with elaborate penwork flourishes extending into the left margin.
The holy parents of the Virgin, naturally barren, received her by the gift of the Most High God, fulfilling their vow, they bring the three-year-old daughter to the temple, they leave there the offering pleasing to God to remain. The virtue and grace of such tender infancy grew, fulfilling in every work the obedience of the Creator.
