ιχθυσ bas
The first manner of vacation is if anyone possesses a benefice with care [of souls], and afterwards it happens that he obtains another benefice with care by apostolic or any other authority—namely, ordinary [authority] or by right of patronage—the first benefice with care which he previously held becomes vacant, unless a dispensation has been obtained from the apostolic [see]. And those expecting such a benefice by virtue of a grace [of expectation] cannot accept it, but it is specially reserved to the apostolic see.
¶ The second manner is if anyone has a benefice with care and afterwards obtains from our lord the pope a grace for a benefice with or without care; if, before his grace meets with effect, he does not exchange or resign such a benefice with or without care, it becomes vacant ipso facto, and it is reserved to the apostolic see.
