We also, who have stood as a wall for apostolic obedience, may be snatched from the hand of the powerful Lord Emperor and others, and thus provision may be made for our security and indemnity, and we may feel the apostolic grace. And those who have abused it [the grace] may gain nothing from it, but let the next generation know not only what was presumed, but also how it was avenged. It was indeed sanctified by the predecessors of Your Holiness that those who contemn divine mandates and are disobedient to fatherly instructions should be corrected with more severe punishments, so that others may fear to commit such things, and God may rejoice in fraternal concord. And let all take the example of severity and goodness. Therefore, it seems worthy that the authors of such great evil and such great overturning be cut off by apostolic authority, lest such harmful contempt be able to break the body of the Church, for the praise of the good and the vengeance of the wicked, most clement and Most Holy Father.
