the grace of Your baptism. ¶ Through Christ our Lord.
¶ The following Gospel is read, and the godparents place their right hands upon the child; the child is named, and the priest says:
The Lord be with you. ¶ The continuation of the holy + Gospel, making crosses on the girl's forehead. According to Matthew.
And the priest also lays his hand upon the girl and reads:
At that time, little children were brought to Jesus that He might lay His hands upon them and pray; but His disciples rebuked them. Jesus, however, said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." And when He had laid His hands upon them, He departed from there.
Then they shall remove their hands, and they shall say ¶ Our Father. Hail Mary. I believe in God. And the priest shall tell the godparents to pray likewise: ¶ Our Father. Hail Mary. I believe. When these are finished, he shall tell the godparents to instruct the girl when she reaches the proper age: ¶ Our Father. Hail Mary. I believe. Then he shall catechize her with these words:
May it not be hidden from you, Satan, that punishments threaten you, that torments threaten you, that the day of judgment threatens you, the day of eternal punishment, the day that is to come like a burning furnace, in which eternal destruction will come upon you and all your angels. ¶ Therefore, you who are condemned and are to be condemned, give honor to the living and true God.
