BE IT KNOWN to all and singular: that our Most Holy Father in Christ, and our Lord Julius II, Supreme Pontiff: has granted a special favor to Ioannes Tacuinus of Trino, printer in the City of Venice. He is to print the books of Vitruvius on Architecture, corrected and reviewed with the greatest effort and study: with their appropriate figures: elaborated with precision; and he has warned that no one should dare to print them: under penalty of excommunication of the latae sententiae automatic penalty incurred upon the act variety: from which, except at the point of death, one may not be absolved by His Holiness: in addition to the penalty of the loss of such printed books imposed by the Ducal Dominion.
The text "LITO CASTICY / ROIT / LIOR EVCLA / MV SIRUGIF / TABAT / VT IAM LEGI ET / INTELLICI POS / SIT" is printed in reverse (mirror writing) in the center of the page. This is a jumbled or inverted version of the title, likely a printing error or a watermark-related artifact.
