Vitruvius · 1511

Let it be known to all and sundry: that the Most Holy Father in Christ and our Lord, Pope Julius II, has granted a special favor to Ioannes Tacuinus of Trino, a printer in the City of Venice. He has granted him the right to print the books of Vitruvius on Architecture, which have been corrected and reviewed with the greatest effort and study, and provided with their own opportune figures, elaborated with precision. It is strictly forbidden for anyone to dare to print these, under pain of the penalty of excommunication by latae sententiae a sentence that takes effect automatically, from which one may not be absolved by His Holiness except at the point of death, in addition to the penalty of confiscation of such printed books imposed by the Ducal Government.
