When she was seven years old, her mother went one day with the little child to the cloister, which was near the castle over which her parents presided. In it, contrary to her mother's will, she remained with great joy, asking the sisters one by one to take her into their company, nor could she be removed from there afterward by the threats or blandishments of her parents. Immediately, in a wondrous way, she began to burn in the love and devotion of God, and her spirit frequently to exult in God with mellifluous sweetness. Progressing, therefore, from day to day, she apprehended the sum of all virtues. She was a person of wondrous sweetness, great humility, and much patience, a lover of poverty, and of excellent fervor and devotion, and especially progressing in charity toward God and men; she showed herself lovable and serviceable to all. She was also moved in a wondrous way with the zeal of piety over the troubled and tempted, and like a true mother she administered consolation and help to them in all things, so that whoever took refuge in her returned either consoled or instructed. She was sought by all, and everyone desired to be associated with her, so that from this she seemed to have many impediments. But in these things God began to become very familiar to her, even when she was still quite young.
