NICOLAVS GERBELIVS
EMPTORI S.
Nicolaus Gerbelius to the buyer, greetings.
From tender leaves and fresh stalks, long ago,
Humans constructed small homes.
Some followed the nests and art of birds,
And covered their naked bodies in foul huts.
But after talent and industry grew,
They trained their rough hands toward better things.
They no longer built homes from clods of earth,
But a beautiful work stood in solid marble.
Human ingenuity still lacked the art,
Which this book teaches with exceptional felicity.
