New Testament.
The books of the Bibles which were written before Christ was manifested, explaining to the world what God did with his ancient people, are called the books of the Old Testament. Furthermore, the books which were written and published after Christ was manifested, concerning how all things of the Old Testament were fulfilled through Christ, and how the New Testament was established with the new people, are called the books of the New Testament.
I. Are the books of the Old Testament distinguished in a particular way? R. Into the Law and the Prophets. To these are added certain Ecclesiastical books (called Apocrypha by others), which are indeed read in the church, but are not brought forward to confirm the authority of faith. For they do not have the same authority as those former ones.
I. What, however, do the books of the New Testament contain? R. They contain the Evangelical history, concerning the deeds and sayings of Christ the Savior, and his revelation. Likewise, the Acts of the Apostles, along with apostolic doctrine, comprised in the epistles of the apostles.
The full doctrine of salvation and piety is handed down in the holy scriptures.
