R. They hand down a completely full doctrine, and indeed, such that as far as saving doctrine is concerned, nothing should be expected, sought, or begged for from elsewhere. I. I would like this to be shown to me clearly. For not everyone believes this. R. I will demonstrate this to you most manifestly by apostolic authority. For the apostle says in 2 Timothy, chapter 3: "Continue in those things which you have learned and which have been entrusted to you, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings, which can make you wise unto salvation, through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture, divinely inspired, is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness, so that the man of God may be whole, equipped or perfected for every good work." I think these things are clearer than the sun, and most openly attribute to the scriptures the most full or perfect doctrine of piety and eternal salvation. I. Furthermore, those things which the apostle writes do not pertain to the books of the New Testament, but to the Old. R. If, however, the apostle proclaims such things about the books of the Old Testament, who then would not see that with the books of the New Testament now added, the Christian doctrine is rendered in a way more full itself.
