What you recently requested of me upon my return from Paris Lutetia the Roman name for Paris, that I should explain to you the state of the French Churches, I cannot do more conveniently than by sending to you the Edicts promulgated there regarding the cause of religion, and already sanctioned by the blood and proscription of many pious men, which I brought back with me from there, together with the confession of those same Churches, which I received from the hands of the pastors of a certain most flourishing Church. I confirm to you that the greatest part of that nation has acknowledged the truth of the Evangelium Gospel, and that the pastors of the Churches are in fullest agreement with our Churches, as I myself, an eyewitness and ear-witness, can truly declare before God. I have translated all these things, as faithfully as I could, both into Latin and into our own language, so that any of these new things could be shared with you. Farewell in Christ.
