Judges and Officials of this territory shall inquire with the highest care into those who have committed acts against this Senatusconsultum decree of the Senate: and they shall send to the King’s Procurator General, every month, all the acts which they have prepared regarding that matter: otherwise, both superior and other arbitrary penalties will be established against their own heads. He also decrees that Bailiffs and their prefects shall send the aforementioned Senatusconsultum to the Judges and Officials of both the superior and inferior jurisdiction over whom they are prefects, so that it may be promulgated and recorded in the public acts. Also, that each for his own part shall inquire into those who have violated that Senatusconsultum within the borders of his jurisdiction: they shall send the acts, and other things which they have done according to the prescription of that Senatusconsultum, to the substitutes of the King’s Procurator General where the aforementioned Tribunals are established. Also, that the Substitutes shall send those acts, after they have been examined with the highest care, to the King’s Procurator General: otherwise, they themselves shall be held liable to the same and other arbitrary penalties: until it is determined otherwise by the same Parliament. He also decrees that this Senatusconsultum be promulgated in individual prefectures of this territory, and recorded in the public acts and records, and promulgated in all the crossroads of the cities, villages, and towns, both Royal and of another kind, so that it may be known to all, and no one may use the excuse of ignorance. Pronounced at Rouen in Parliament, June 16, Year 1559.
