RVDIMENTA
Therefore, the honest is praiseworthy. It should be noted in passing that universal signs, such as 'every', 'none', and particulars, such as 'some', 'a certain one', are not considered parts of the propositions, since only the noun and verb are legitimate parts of a proposition; the rest are additions.
Second figure
The second figure of Syllogisms is that in which the medium or middle term is the predicate in both propositions. For example:
No good person perjures himself.
Every fraudster perjures himself.
Therefore no fraudster is a good person.
The middle term is, Perjures himself, and it is the predicate of both propositions. Good and Fraudster are the subjects. Good is the major term of the Syllogism; Fraudster is the minor. Because these terms do not meet in their middle, To perjure, it cannot meet in the conclusion. They are therefore correctly separated: Therefore no fraudster is a good person; because, of course, the fraudster perjures himself, but no good person perjures himself.
The third figure, in which the middle term is the subject in both propositions.
Every man is an animal.
Every man is capable of laughter.
Therefore some laughing thing is an animal.
Here, man, the middle term, is the subject in both propositions.
This figure does not conclude universally, because the middle term is not universal in both propositions.
OF THE HYPOTHETICAL SYLLOGISM.
It is one that is constructed from hypothetical propositions, which are either conditional, or copulative, or disjunctive.
