This library is built in the open.
If you spot an error, have a suggestion, or just want to say hello — we’d love to hear from you.

On the contrary. The Republic is never happy,
If the honor of piety has been neglected.
So that the Republic, full of labor, may flourish more,
And the honor of the word of God may be promoted.
Illustrious Counts, born of generous blood,
You cherish the riches of the Pieridum Muses with a ready mind.
Moreover, you adorn the Camænas Muses of song/poetry with better study,
By the honor recently bestowed upon the famous school.
Here where the house is most pleasing to the Pegasus-born Muses,
And where you see the famous walls of Lemgouiæ Lemgo.
For the school is like a nurse of goodness, and of this troop,
Which rules and preserves the work of the whole world.
Who would not celebrate these gifts with a mindful voice?
Gifts, which possess much convenience.
Who would not celebrate the Counts, endowed with extraordinary virtues,
And the other riches of the mind?
For which this region, with a burning breast, gives thanks
To the heavenly God, who rules these things.
And it asks with assiduous prayers that mercifully GOD
May protect and preserve them for their goodness.
So that the goodness of the highest Thunderer may be celebrated in the world,
And the subject may be able to be good and pious.
Thus it is fitting to be pious and grateful for the gift, for
This is what love, and the fatherland, and GOD demand.
Since God bestows every good thing upon us abundantly,
It is fitting for us to return these goods with a grateful voice.
