Philippi Melanthonis Epigrammatvm Libri Tres

The eternal Creator is to be asked with a true voice,
However, to appease Him, the altar is to be sought by you.
There is no altar pleasing to God, except Christ the son,
Who paid for our crimes by his own office.
Apply your hands to Him, lean upon Him with your whole heart,
He will carry our prayers to the father.

SEEDS of the true knowledge of God the author
Are implanted in our minds from the first origin.
So that we might know the Lord set over us, and his
Life was subject to the immutable law.
Alas, why are so many accustomed to extinguish these flames
Of divine light, forgetful of themselves and of God.
And they disturb the just covenants of legitimate life.
And with God despised, they rush into every crime.
But yet, this flame kindled in the breast keeps a few
So that they may cultivate the just gifts of life.
In them is the greatest ardor to have known God
More closely and to see Him face to face,
As much as He will concede.
Therefore, Moses also asks in the clear light of the face,
To be able to see the shown face of the Lord.
