BOOK
We shall know the secret causes once the fountain is inspected,
And grateful minds will sing of such great gifts.
Meanwhile, kingdoms are torn by wars, and the world
rushes everywhere toward its own punishments by fate.
And just as fame reports that the Titans dared,
With mountains piled up, to climb toward the sublime North.
And having extinguished the stars, they attempted to turn everything back,
Mixed together into the old and blind chaos.
So does the impious Turkish madness boast everywhere,
To wage wars against the Son of God.
Finally, while the world is tortured by various motions,
Many dangers harass the flock of Christ.
But yet, amid these terrors, the great right hand
Of the to-be-revered God Himself protects the pious gatherings.
CONCERNING THE WAILING
CHURCH.
Wisdom born from the mind of the eternal Father,
In whom the idea of the new world's works shone.
And who distinguished the most beautiful bodies of things,
And commanded each to have its own forms.
This same wisdom wails in a small cradle,
Bearing the tender limbs of our nature.
Thus, although He pours Himself into our breasts,
He has not yet granted that we can see Him in His entirety.
Yet, just as the beginnings of such great light are in us,
So does the wailing sound like the first dogmas.
