Magnanimity is the bearing well both good fortune and bad fortune, and honor and dishonor: and the not admiring luxury, nor flattery, nor power, nor competitive victories. It is to possess a certain depth and greatness of soul. The magnanimous man is:

one who does not make much of living, who is not a lover of life. He is simply noble in character, able to endure being wronged, and not vengeful. There follow after magnanimity, simplicity and truth.
