the dogmas of our religion should be proposed simply, clearly, and with the greatest moderation and tranquility, especially those which contribute to the explanation of the articles of faith and the certainty of our salvation. Therefore, since I have decided at this time to treat the words of the Lord, In my Father's house there are many mansions, and by this treatment (as much as the Lord shall grant) to teach what ought to be believed concerning the certainty of our salvation and those blessed seats in which we are to be with Christ forever: I shall certainly endeavor (since these matters have not long ago come into contention, and through contention have become somewhat involved and obscure) to explain and illustrate them as simply and clearly as possible. Truly, where it will be necessary to respond to the objections of this cause, I will restrain myself, so that I may not be carried too vehemently against the assertors of the objections, nor by
