So that one region may be happier than others in its specific prerogatives. But since such is the slowness or blindness of the human mind, or a certain stubborn malice and indeed an innate hardness and pertinacity, that it either does not recognize the benefits bestowed upon it, or scorns them with an ungrateful spirit, I thought it worth the effort that this lethargic spirit of our people be shaken off, and that many be incited to the giving of thanks (although I acknowledge the powers of my own mind to be too weak to perhaps accomplish this) by placing before our eyes the singular gift of our fatherland, which should be celebrated with perpetual praises, so that in the recognition of this benefit, they may show themselves grateful to God, the Best and Greatest, in the purity of their lives and in innocence. For just as we know that God once wished the people of Israel, led into a land flowing with milk and honey, to recognize and celebrate this benefit perpetually through true piety of mind and integrity of life,
