REPETITION AND CLEARER EXPLANATION.
body, with these two substances remaining intact and unconfused, [forming] one man. In the same way, all the sacred interpreters, with pious consensus (and I do not exclude Cyril here, who explained himself abundantly elsewhere), have expounded the words of the apostle, The Word was made flesh, [to mean that] the eternal Son of God assumed true man in the womb of the virgin Mary, his mother. This interpretation they soon illustrated and confirmed with other passages of Scripture. For Paul said, For he does not take hold of angels, but he takes hold of the seed of Abraham. And again, He emptied himself, having taken the form of a servant.

Apostolic preaching concerning Christ.
Therefore, the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ preached these two diverse natures in Christ—compacted, joined, associated, or united—to the church of God throughout the world, in such a way that they testified plainly that there are not two Christs, but only one Christ, and the same [person] is true God and man, incarnate, having suffered, died, buried, raised from the dead, taken up into heaven, and sitting at the right hand of the Father, from whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
Prophetic preaching concerning Christ.
Nor did they alone preach thus and hand down this doctrine to us in their writings, but the prophets before them also taught thus concerning the Messiah, with whom the apostles agree in all things. This one may gather even from these few most open testimonies. Isaiah said, Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emanuel.
