REPETITION AND CLEARER EXPLANATION.
or Difference, likewise Unconfused, Union or Conjunction, Undivided or Inseparable, and finally, Communication of Idioms properties, are not found in the sacred scriptures in those exact words. But it is most certain that good men do not contend over words—whatever they may be, whether Hebrew, Greek, or Latin, ancient or new—provided that the things themselves signified by the words are set forth in the holy scriptures, and that these [terms] are subsequently clearly and legitimately gathered or deduced from them. Now, since the things themselves signified by the aforementioned terms are taught in the church by open testimonies of Scripture, and since most of them have been used since the times of the apostles in both the Latin and Greek Church of Christ, it is impossible for a good man to abhor them, provided no one abuses them, but rather they are applied in the way that that holy antiquity, by its consensus and according to the holy scriptures, used and applied them.
Concerning the word person.
The Latin doctors of the churches used the word Person, but the Greeks used the word hypostasis individual substance, and they understood that unity having within itself compacted, if I may say so, or composed, diverse natures: just as a man is called a Person or hypostasis, namely, one subsisting substance, compacted of two diverse natures, soul and body.
