is (since all things had to be done in order even then) to which one would gather to perform Sacred rites, and to which the sacrifices themselves were either brought or led: where also God himself bore witness to his mind regarding his own before them. There, clearly and certainly, Cain understood that he and his sacrifice were not approved by God, in contrast to his brother and his sacrifice, which were most pleasing to God.
Thence, those who inquired of the oracle of God gathered at a certain place, as is confirmed from Genesis 25:22, where either God himself is introduced answering Rebecca, or certainly her father-in-law Abraham, then the priest and prophet of the Church of God of that time.
Gen. 4.14 & 16. Because, therefore, God exhibited his presence more clearly in that place, when Cain was driven from there, he is said to be driven מִפְּנֵי יְהוָה from the presence of the Lord.
It is likely that an altar was erected at that place, upon which victims would be placed.
As concerns time, the seventh day, or Sabbath, seems to have been appointed from the very creation of the world for frequenting assemblies and for sacred rest: as can be collected from what Moses explicitly pronounces regarding such rest before the Law was given at Mount Sinai, Exodus 16:5, 26, and 27. Add to this that such a day, and its rationale and use, was most known to the ancient fathers themselves.
