OPINION OF NESTORIUS.

After these, a certain man named Nestorius arose, who originated from Germanicia in Syria, was enrolled in the clergy at Antioch on the Orontes river, and obtained the throne of Constantinople. He again malignantly abused the terminology of the two natures in Christ, imitating his predecessors Paul and Theodore. For he does not affirm the number of two natures in order to signify the truth of the divinity and humanity in Christ, and their immutability, persistence, and non-confusion, but rather to fraudulently imply two persons through the number two itself, maliciously taking the name of nature in place of that of persons, and perversely introducing a novel use of the word "natures," which it is wicked to think of regarding persons: so that for him, Christ is one, and the Word of God is another, an error accepted from his predecessors.
