In this time, contentions have been stirred up concerning the names of Unity, Triad, or Trinity, Essence, Substance, Person, Word, Son of God, Generation, Consubstantial, Spirit, and Procession. And many cry out that the words Trinity, Person, Essence, Subsistence, and Consubstantial are nowhere to be found in Sacred Scripture, and for that reason, as profane words and less fitting for the business of God, they utterly cast them aside and condemn them. As to how prudently they do this, let them consider. For even if those words are not read written in so many letters in the Holy Scriptures (being written by the Prophets and Apostles in languages other than Latin), yet the things which those words signify are most clearly contained and taught in them, which all and singular nations can thereafter express in their own language, and pronounce for their own utility and necessity. Nor does it matter much if some word, fitting and suitable for explaining a matter, does not exist in the Holy Scripture with the same letters as it is read in another language, provided that what the word signifies is read clearly expressed in the scriptures.
