Isaiah 6: Holy, holy, holy. This triple repetition of the same name signifies the Trinity. The ternary number certainly fits here beautifully. For the Father is holy, the Son is holy, the Holy Spirit is holy, and there is one and the same holiness. And from this, three holy Gods are not constituted, but one holy God, Jehovah of hosts. But that the angels did not say Holy Father, holy Son, holy Holy Spirit, but simply Holy, holy, holy, Lord of hosts: this happened because the mystery of the holy triad was not to be manifested by angels in the Old Testament, but by the Lord Himself in the New.
