and me, on account of him (as was certainly most equitable), he willed it greatly, and on account of you, whom I embrace with a unique and singular love in that same God of ours, the guardian of these studies. These two things, therefore, caused me to recur to the pages of my codices with this purpose and plan, to reread the shores (so to speak), and to retrace the errant shores (as that man said). For I wanted both to satisfy the desire of my friends and also to consult your interests as much as I could. When, however, many such places occurred scattered about (as chance brought the matter and God himself gave it), having been examined by me quite attentively and most often excited and aided by the lucubrations of others: I thought I must begin from this one, because it was one of those about which there had been a discussion in my last conversation with those friends of ours. May the Lord our God, for his infinite mercy toward us, grant (which I also trust he will do, regarding that very one about whom this entire discussion of ours will be, our Lord Jesus Christ) that all things may redound to the glory of his name and the edification of our faith: Amen.
