A detailed chorographic map of the region around Lake Geneva (Lacus Lemannus), featuring topographical renderings of mountains, towns, and the lake. The map is framed by heraldic shields of various Swiss regions and includes a decorative cartouche containing a Latin poem.
A decorative cartouche in the upper right quadrant contains a Latin poem dedicated to Thomas Schöpf.
On the chorographic tables of the city and territory of Bern, composed by Dr. Thomas Schöpf, Doctor of Medicine.
Since God gives joyful peace to the earth, and calm quiet to the kingdoms of the world and to the Empire,
He clearly wishes the Church to have safe seats upon the earth, and to put its enemies to flight.
Therefore, what was once extended by the eyes of the Bernese, and now has been made broad in its boundary,
Whether you look at the middle sun, or the seven stars referring to the North/Ursa Major,
Or the eastern regions, or the western sites.
As these painted tables, which the learned Schöpf offers,
Show to your eyes, and place before you.
The reason is that this land has provided a seat for holy peoples, a faithful
Hospitality, and has given shelter:
Therefore, you also love Christ and the faithful of Christ,
Render thanks to God with your whole heart.
Fulfill your pious vows to God, and pray that the Lord
May always protect and cherish his own.
