Christ said concerning the Jews at Matthew 23. They sit in the chair of Moses, do what they have taught you, but do not do according to their works, signifying that the Jews were not correctly philosophizing in the law of Moses. Thus, the church of Christ indeed had many professors of faith; yet there were few who thought that to be a Christian was nothing other than to testify to innocence in life and morals. Therefore, he corrects the preposterous morals of these men.

The principal genre is exhortatory, as is done in deliberations, where rules and precepts about morals are given. Following this are things that embellish it, such as didaktikon didactic/instructive, epainetikon commendatory, psektikon reproachful, and similar ones.
