in a riddle, to know even as we have been known, to live with Christ, to reign, to be glorified. 1 Cor. 13, verse 12; 2 Tim. 2, verses 11-12.
9. Our humble body will be conformed to the glorious body of Christ, and it will be powerful and spiritual. (Phil. 3, verse 21; 1 Cor. 15, verses 43-44.) Subject Now, the incorruptible original: ἄφθαρτον body will not weigh down the soul, nor will an earthly dwelling depress the Mind, now freed from troublesome cares.
10. But just as by the excellent counsel of God, the primary end of this material and soulish original: ψυχμῆς life is action original: πρᾶξις, that is, the obedience of faith: so the being original: τὸ ὄν of that formal and spiritual life will be contemplation original: θεωρία, or perfect contemplation and knowledge of divine wisdom. I speak relatively original: κατά τι; for even in eternal life there will be the most perfect functions of virtues in us: just as in this life there must be some contemplation of divine things, which, however, is shut in by narrow boundaries.
1. God the Father vivifies us through Christ Jesus. Eph. 2, verse 5. But He is not said to give eternal life confusedly and universally original: καθολικῶς, but as the Father original: αἴτιον πατρικῶς, reconciled to us through Christ.
2. I, says Christ Jesus, give eternal life to them: and they will not perish forever, nor will anyone snatch them from my hand. John 10, verse 28. Thence we gather that it is impossible original: ἀδύνατον that they should be made vessels of wrath from vessels of grace. For whoever is born of God does not commit sin: because His seed remains in him: nor can he sin, for the reason that he is born of God. 1 John 3, verse 9.
3. Furthermore, since the Holy Spirit is the essential power of the Father and the Word original: λόγου, and the vivifying spirit original: πνεῦμα τὸ ζωοποιὸν (John 6, verse 63), just as He makes the very flesh of the Word original: τῶ λόγῳ vivifying for us, so He also makes us participants of eternal life, while He regenerates and vivifies us.
4. Charity is its leading original: προηγουμένη cause. God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great charity with which He loved us, has vivified us together with Christ original: συνεζωοποίησε τῷ χριστῷ. Eph. 2, verse 4.
5. And He did this when we were dead in offenses and sins: in which we once walked, as is the life of this world, according to the prince against whose power the air is, etc. Eph. 2, verses 1 & 2.
6. Moreover, that faith, which is defined as full conviction original: πληροφορία, is the organic cause, we conclude from these and similar sayings: "The just shall live by faith." Hab. 2, verse 4; Rom. 1, verse 17. Likewise, "I live, however, not I any longer, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live through the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and delivered himself for me." Gal. 2, verse 20.
