The sense is that he looked directly to the command of God concerning preaching the Gospel which was revealed to him from heaven, and therefore he used the counsel of no man, not even of the Apostles, lest he should seem to subject a heavenly calling made immediately to human counsels. Although men have an immortal soul, yet with respect to God they are called flesh and blood, so that they may be humbled; for flesh is subject to rot and worms.
1 observation: When the will of God is certain, one must diligently proceed to execution.

See Jeremiah 9, Isaiah 40: All flesh is grass. The flesh wishes to subject God to its own counsels, as in Psalm 2: The kings deliberate against Jehovah, etc., as if Jehovah were a child or a man.
Abraham does not confer with flesh when he is about to offer his son, but rises in the morning, to inquire at the mouth of the Lord, afterwards to execute it diligently. Whence comes such pride today, such contempt for the truth of the Gospel, except because they are ignorant that they are flesh, that is, mere corruption and rot?
Jeremiah 17: Cursed is he who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm.
He will not see the future comfort. original: "Den zukunfftigen troft vvirt er nicht sehen."
Deuteronomy 29: Woe to the man who lives according to the will of his own heart.
Application: Yet today almost the whole world lives in trust of the flesh.
Therefore, while we hear that we are flesh, let us first be humbled, and let us not trust in ourselves.
