When I was considering to whom I should primarily dedicate these my Theses, submitted for public disputation to this end, that I might comply with the most illustrious Aesculapian Order note: medical faculty, you, STRENUOUS MEN AND GREAT HEROES, first occurred to me. For I may rightly affirm that you hold the primary position among those who have both promoted my studies and wish to promote them more and more. For I am not unaware how much you, SIR KNIGHT BAPTISTA, most prudent Praetor and respected patron, both by counsel and aid, helped and encouraged my father, a man to be honored, and me yourself, as Secretary, in the very first years of my childhood, so that I might dedicate myself to studies. And I am not unaware of the same benevolence toward me which, having set aside my thoughtless and childish imprudence, you have made manifest and continue to make manifest daily. Furthermore, by what reasons you, Magnificient Lord IOANNES, most just Commissioner, have demonstrated that my endeavor is welcome and acceptable, I cannot narrate individually. For your highest modesty, your prudence, your singular justice in administering affairs and governing the Republic, your erudition, and the knowledge of things drawn from the more refined letters
