he is, through that which he is man. Therefore, to be everywhere and to be in heaven differ greatly, against those to whom heaven is everywhere. Although even in that fact, that God is said to be diffused everywhere, one must resist carnal thought, and the mind must be called away from bodily senses: lest we believe that God is diffused through all things as if by a spacious magnitude, just as smoke, air, or this light is diffused. For every magnitude of this kind is smaller in its Part than in the Whole: which no one should assert or believe regarding the divinity. For since it is immense and infinite, where it is, there it is present totally and Essentially: and that not by bulk or Quantity, but filling all things by its Essential presence. Isaiah 66. But to assert this regarding his Humanity, which whether you consider it separately or united to himself, consists in being finite by circumscribed substance: or to attribute to it any such mode of omnipresence, which is proper to the Deity alone: what, I ask, is this other than both in name and in reality, to mix the Deity with the Humanity? Which may it be as far as possible from us.
